Advice to new people coming into the IBM i industry?

Go in without preconceptions, and read everything you can! There are a lot of different ways to use the IBM i, plenty of which I was unaware of when I started. You never know when documentation, release notes, or a webinar might make you aware of something you had never heard about before. I’ve checked the documentation on even the most basic of commands or concepts just to gain a broader understanding of the platform. Dive into any rabbit hole you can find.

Fun facts you’re willing to share (fun things about you, hobbies, something about you)

When I was growing up, I wanted to be a visual effects artist, working on movies or TV. When I’m not working, I might be messing around in 3d animation software – usually just making simple visual effects. I just enjoy learning new things and different ways that things like lighting are calculated by computer software.

What do you love about IBM i?

To me, the IBM i is something of an unsung hero. It’s not used for general office functions, but it handles the heavy workload of a business with amazing uptime and reliability. It is robust and dependable, and almost anything you would need to manage the system is included.
